Giorgio Griffa’s fourth solo exhibition at Galleria Lorcan O’Neill in Rome focuses on the relationship between his works from the 1980s and his current practice. It draws a parallel between the joyful exuberance of colour fields, forms, and dancing Matisse-like lines of the Sign and Field series—unfolding throughout the 1980s—and the more recent Disorder paintings, where expansive colour areas evoke memories of Italian frescoes, while a rich variety of lines, strokes, notches and curves draw upon the visual alphabet developed over sixty years of exploration.
A show that highlights the fullness of Giorgio Griffa’s painting, bringing into focus some of the many possible threads of continuity running through his bodies of work.
